Disinfestation is generically defined as the set of operations aimed at limiting or eliminating (in certain environments) weeds that create damage or disturbance to man, his things and his activities.
The knowledge of weed species, their behavior, their biological cycle and the environmental variables by which this can be conditioned, are the basis of the choices of the methods of struggle, equipment, machines and products to be used.

Among the measures to be taken by companies to ensure high levels of food safety, priority is given to the fight against pests. The new Regulations of the "Hygiene Package" have confirmed the importance of the fight against parasites in order to achieve food safety objectives. In particular, EC Regulation no. 852/2004 identifies obligations for companies, while EC Regulation no. 854/2004, includes the fight against parasites among the procedures that the company must put in place and that becomes subject to verification by the competent authorities.

Disinfection
The term Disinfection refers to the operations carried out in order to reduce by killing, inactivation or lifting the amount of microorganisms (bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa) present in the environments and on surfaces. Disinfection is important in confined spaces or facilities where there are people particularly susceptible to the risk of infections and becomes indispensable after the removal of carcasses of rodents, pigeons, or other animals, after environmental contamination by insects and after the reclamation of sensitive areas from organic material.
